Now

Lisbon, mostly Graça. Writing most mornings at a café by the miradouro, before the tourists find it.

Making

  • Season 4 of Slow Signals. Recording through November, back in January with six conversations about listening.
  • A book proposal, working title Rooms, Not Feeds. Two chapters drafted; one of them is good.
  • Moving the last of the 2018 letters into this site. Forty-one to go.

Reading

  • The Rings of Saturn, W. G. Sebald — slowly, on paper.
  • Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Annie Dillard — again.

Listening

  • Carlos Paredes, Guitarra Portuguesa.
  • Ten-minute field recordings of the same corner in Graça, every Sunday.

Learning

  • The Portuguese future subjunctive, which Dona Graça says I use like a tourist.

Not doing

  • Conferences until March.
  • New social accounts. Four was enough.

This is a now page: what I’d tell a friend I hadn’t seen in a year. I update it when something changes.
